The Admissions Process

Maple Street School seeks students who are motivated and have a positive attitude toward learning, who possess areas of cognitive strengths, who have strong interests, and enjoy intellectual, aesthetic, and athletic pursuits.  We look for children with a developing sense of individual responsibility and the capacity to contribute to a group.  Because we believe that family participation enhances school life, we seek parents who want to play an active role in the school community.

Inquiry

Click here to send us an on-line inquiry. After receiving the information packet, interested parents should schedule an interview and tour with the Director of Admissions by calling the school office at 802-362-7137. We encourage admissions visits for parents and students between October and March.

Parent Interview

This is an opportunity to learn about the philosophy and the vision of Maple Street School, about current developments, and to explore with the Director of Admissions whether Maple Street will be a productive educational setting for the candidate child.

Complete Application

The application should be completed by parents and returned with a fee of $50 to Maple Street School, 322 Maple Street, Manchester Center, VT 05255. We ask parents to deliver The Release of Student Records form to the candidate child’s current school. Upon receipt of the application, recommendation forms will be mailed to the child’s current teacher and person of the parents’ choice: another teacher, a coach, or an adult friend. If financial aid has been requested, a financial aid package will be mailed to the parents.

Student Visit

Upon completion of the student application, the Director of Admissions will schedule a time for the candidate to visit. Kindergarten candidates are invited to a Saturday readiness group assessment as well as a visit with Maple Street Kindergartners for one hour during the school day. We invite each candidate for admission to Grades 1 through 4, to visit the school for one day, and candidates for Grades 5 through 7 for two days. Assessments will be administered to help determine readiness and skill level in math, writing and reading.

Communication Of Admissions Decision

Returning students secure places by March 1, and new candidates whose applications are complete are informed of the admissions decision by March 15. Admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis for remaining spaces. When a class is filled, qualified candidates will be placed in a candidate pool.

Enrollment

A student is enrolled when the enrollment contract and the non-refundable deposit of $1,750 is received.  This contract and fee secures a place and also secures a financial aid offer.
