Mikheev comes to Maple Street School from Sewickley Academy in Pennsylvania, where she is the Head of Lower School where she led strategy, staffing, curriculum, assessment practices, budget and admissions.

“I am delighted and honored to be joining Maple Street this summer as the fourth Head of School,” Mikheev said. “I have followed Maple Street’s development since its inception, and it is such a privilege to be part of a learning community that reflects so powerfully the core values that I hold dear about teaching and learning.”

Mikheev holds a Ph.D. in School Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University; a M.Ed. from Teachers College, Columbia University; and a M.A. in Slavic Languages and Literatures from Columbia University. She has more than 20 years of experience working in independent schools as a teacher, school psychologist, administrator and Head of Lower School.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am excited to share the announcement of Dr. Mikheev as Maple Street’s fourth Head of School,” said Amy Panitz, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “With her expertise in social-emotional learning and knowledge of developmental stages of childhood, Dr. Mikheev will bring a fresh perspective to learning at Maple Street School.”

Mikheev’s doctoral work at Columbia’s Teachers College in school psychology led her to practice at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Birch Walthen Lenox School and Mandell School in New York City, where she worked with students from pre-school through 12th grade. “In my work as a school counselor, I often reflected on how schools could integrate psychological principles into their daily workings to make life better for students, teachers and families,” Mikheev said. “This is when I realized that my perspective on students and their learning could inform my strong interest in school leadership.”

Mikheev is very familiar with the Northshire area, having spent family vacations here for more than 40 years, skiing, swimming and enjoying all that the area has to offer. She is excited to make this area her home with her husband and four children.

Maple Street School conducted a nationwide search for Mikheev to fill the role of Head of School. “I want to thank the dedicated Search Committee, ably led by Trustee Chuck Burdick,” Panitz said. “We are grateful for the wisdom of Jean Lamont from Educators’ Collaborative who guided our search, and to current Head of School, Fanning Hearon, the faculty and families who were fully engaged in this extensive search process.”

Current Head of School, Fanning Hearon, will assume the role of Head of School at Palm Beach Day Academy in Palm Beach, Florida beginning July 1, 2019.
