French is the primary language taught at Maple Street due in part to the primacy of French in the global economy, to our proximity to Canada, and to our commitment to understanding our roots and neighbors in Vermont. The proximity of Québec enables us to take 6th grade students on an annual trip to Québec City in order to use their foreign language in context. Historically, many Vermont place names and families have francophone roots, making studying French a valuable part of understanding who we are and our cultural origins. French permeates Maple Street on many different levels; we embrace excellence by making the language a part of the school day, not only in French classes. French is required for all students in grades K through 6th grade.
Spanish was introduced as a language option for Upper School students at Maple Street School beginning in the fall of 2017. Spanish is now offered to interested Maple Street students in the 7th and 8th grade classes.
